The Great Beyond

Breeze let out a huge breath; he had finally finished his repetitions on the bench. It was the highest weight he had ever lifted and he had lifted it more times than ever. He only stopped because he did not want to injure himself; the pain was not a factor, not a negative one anyway. He was in top physical condition, better than ever. He had planned a build-up over months, slowly the muscles became bigger and harder and now he was at his peak

Physically he was ready for Fudge but mentally he wasn’t sure about. He had been depressed, his relationship with Fudge’s sister had been off and on a lot, her temperament was all over the place, the fact she was pregnant sent hormones flying every which way and Breeze was irritable and grouchy most of the time. This led to constant bickering among them and often tempers flared and words were exchanged that pierced through their defences

Breeze became a mess over this, he could never please her, she asked for things he couldn’t get. Then went mad at him because he couldn’t get them, then if he managed to do it, no matter how much it cost she would complain it wasn’t right or she didn’t like it. Breeze was already in a mood before she did this then after ten minutes in her company he would be raging and punching walls. She would even taunt him to hit her, she was irrepressible.

He thought sometimes she only stayed with him at his mansion to make his life hell. She would constantly moan, she was spiteful and devious and he couldn’t throw her out of his house, she was pregnant with his child and plus he loved her too much and she knew this, she played on it to her fullest advantage, and it worked

In a few minutes he would have to see her again. He would try to avoid it but she had the maids looking out for him. If he got caught leaving without her permission or approval then she would lecture him for what seemed like ages. He didn’t even try to sneak out; he would probably get caught. Now he would just tell her he was going out and suffer any abuse she could throw at him. It was a horrible way to live but there was nothing he could do. She was unbelievable; she would be waiting for him to come home at night and then would come to Spanish Inquisition. And then the insults, how he was not good enough for her, how she thought it terrible she had to be pregnant and why he didn’t, and how he was ungrateful and how he was an asshole and how all men in general were and why it was allowed to become impregnated. It was like a broken record; she would not give up. Breeze’s life was far from great at the moment. And she was the main problem in it.

He left the room after cleaning himself up and walked downstairs, Hayley had ‘requested’ his attendance and to not show up would have caused a major fuss. So he walked downstairs, being gently reminded by Maids that he was due there any second, they didn’t want to dodge dishes all night from Hayley and so Breeze helped try to stop Hayley’s mood swings for the sake of the whole household. He got to the outside of the living room door, took a deep breath then walked in.

Hayley’s first look at him gave him a sickening feeling of déjà vu and he sighed

Hayley’s eyes narrowed: Why such a sigh?

Breeze: I think I know what’s coming up

Hayley’s voice raised a few octaves: What is coming up James? The great wonderful James Breeze who can do nothing wrong, who even knows how to read minds now

Breeze sighed yet again

Breeze: Look can you just tell me what you want

Hayley’s eyes narrowed: I want to know why you didn’t tell me about HWA ReBirth?

Breeze’s shock was profound; he was not expecting this. He had got the cable and satellite men to take off the channels that had any association with the HWA or any wrestling. He had blamed this on a problem soon to be fixed. She was too snappy to be suspicious, now somehow she had found out, or so it seemed

Breeze: What about it?

Hayley: I think you know

Breeze didn’t answer

Hayley: Good plan, considering you knew Ste only phoned once every week to see how I was and usually on a Tuesday, and getting those stations turned off, pure genius. You forgot though or neglected the fact this match is massive, it is being covered by more than just a few stations, there was a promotion for it on NBC, during the advertisements. It’s the biggest match to come out of HWA in a while and they seem to spending a lot on it. Silly boy

The latter comment was made in the most patronizing tone imaginable

Breeze: I really don’t want to be doing this right now

Hayley: Why, need to concentrate so that when tomorrow comes you can finally kick my brother’s ass?

Breeze: Look, its not like that, its nothing personal

Hayley: It’s nothing personal? Is that some kind of sick joke or have you been smoking marijuana up in that room of yours all day?

Breeze: Look, it can’t be helped

Hayley: It’s Ste for god’s sake, what are you thinking of?

Breeze: Please drop it

Hayley: No, you are not going tomorrow and that’s final

Breeze spluttered: What?

Hayley: You heard me!

Breeze: I am not missing the biggest match of my life because you don’t feel like letting me do it!

Hayley: I don’t feel like letting you do it? It’s my brother, you’re, you’re my…

Breeze: What?

Hayley: You’re the father of this brat inside of me, you will not fight him tomorrow, you will have to go through me first

Breeze: I haven’t got time for this, I’m going upstairs to prepare further for my match, the one I will be going to tomorrow

Hayley: By hell you will

Hayley threw herself in front of Breeze

Breeze: I haven’t got time for dramatics, if you want to help your brother pray I die in my sleep tonight, or he does, it’s the only way this match won’t take place

Hayley: Please, don’t

Breeze: Why? What is the big deal?

Hayley: Look, you two have been through more than most, it’s not just a match, I know the situation between you two, your greed and thirst and jealousy over him. And I know him just as well. Don’t do this, it will not lead to anything good. Only one thing can come out of this

Breeze: What’s that?

Hayley: The Destruction of you both

Breeze: So be it…

Hayley slapped him square across the face

Hayley: You will die before I let this happen

Breeze’s eyes convulsed and his mouth frothed

His anger raised to its maximum and he became oblivious of all actions afterwards, his insanity started again. He regained his senses again, he did not know what had happened between the time he was in control of his actions and now. He looked around, plates had been smashed, that could have been anyone. He shook his head and his vision was clearer.

Hayley was on the floor, her head was bleeding. Breeze looked over at her, she raised her head, there were tears flowing down her cheeks. Breeze choked for breath, her eyes gazed onto his, striking through his defences. He did not know what had happened, he thought the worst. He walked over to Hayley and fell beside her, he tried to touch her but she cowered away, frightened. She slowly got up and walked away, Breeze did not have the heart to speak

That was probably the worst moment of his life

Later on that night he went to walk into Hayley’s room, something stopped him, she was speaking, he could hear her from outside the room

Hayley was crying

Hayley: No its alright, leave it, I don’t think he meant it

Silence

Hayley: I know you’re my brother but there is nothing you can do

Silence

Hayley: Please… No

There was silence after that

Breeze gave up after 10 minutes and entered his own room

ReBirth was coming up, less than 24 hours he would go up against his only fear. Defeat. It was one he never usually feared, now he did. He feared it more than fear itself, this was pivoting, the decider. The Great Beyond held the answer he had been searching for, for most of his life. Was he good enough?

Time would tell, it always did, it was inevitable, as inevitable as hate itself
